Music Festival Advertisement project

Music Festival Advertisement Project
This project was a a test of hierarchy and type placement. I had chosen a music festival to make a small advertisement for it. This was very similar to the Magazine Designer History Project, since this also had to follow some sort of aesthetic of the festival I chose which was the SXSW Music Festival. The festival revolved around highly diverse forms of music, showcasing international artists' performances. The first part of the project was making type hierarchy drafts for the ads. There were two types of layout categories: Multiple singers put onto the ad, and a single singer treated as the promotional performance for the festival. Here are examples of the layouts I was experimenting with:
Large text for SXSW Festival and different orientations
Larger text for the information meant to capture attention
Multiple singer draft tests with different typefaces
Heavy emphasis on the promotional singer
Thanks to critiques and a convenient song choice of an iconic piano music piece, I landed on these two designs.
This design was exclusively to promote the Black keys band on the SXSW Festival and having a piano key design that plays onto the name of the band.
This design was meant to play on the diversity of the festival, displaying a variety of colors. The shapes in which the artists and dates are in are meant to resemble the synth waves on a digital soundboard.
